The first bunch are from KAF and my stranding in Dubai because of the volcano.
The truck was in the last FOB I was in, me in front of the memorial for Fallen Soldiers. The guy is my "boss", we called him the Swedish Chef, he's a dead ringer!
In Dubai we went to a water park, for Dubai and as big as everything is, I was shocked there was only about 5 rides. I tried to take a video of the huge waterslide but as you can see it did not turn out well at all.
Once we finally got to Cyprus we did some go karting and paintballing, which were pretty fun. No pictures of it because its just too common in Canada. Seems common to have signs saying no paper in toilets, however none of us could bring ourselves to put the paper in the garbage, just too gross.
I went on a tour of some historical sites in Cyprus. The tour guide must have been the first person DND picked off the street because she had so many random thoughts, she could not have been a pro. ie "Houses go for an average 400K, larger houses are more expensive" and rned out car She tended to tell us something awesome was coming up and then we never stopped to see it.
However the site we did see where pretty good. We started off with Aphrodite's birthplace, then proceeded through the Cyprian country side to a ruin site of the kindom of Kourion with a Roman bath house and a theatre. There was more but we didn't get to see it.
Then we headed to a the town of Limassol to see a Byzantine and Medievel Castle/museum. They did't allow pictures in there, however between me and one other guy we got some. The picture outside is of a Olive Oil Press. The Skeleton you see was unearthed with no arms and beheaded, no one knows why.
Following this we proceeded to the town of Omodos. Here we got to see an old monastary, that had a more modern church built in the center of it. After that we had an authentic Greek lunch. I finally had liver and it is as gross as I thought and it tastes like DIRT!
After this we wandered the town where we saw this one house which has been turned into a museum. They made their own wine here as well. The thing against the wall is a very old thresher for those you know what its for.
Then we headed back to the hotel and that was the shortened version of Cyprus all 2 days instead of 5.
This whole blog thing that I never thought I would start, is about to make a transition. The layout and pictures will change. For those of you that care to know...I am posted this summer to the St. John's in Halifax. As a result I will be sailing the 7 seas, ok maybe not 7 but I am sure I will sail some. Anyhow I will be updating this thing periodically during my adventures or misadventures with the Navy. YARRRRR!!!
