Eid ul-Fitr

Well today was an interesting day. First I got the ingredients I needed and made fajitas for all 7 of us here. Then, we were invited by the camp interpreter to the festival of Eid. This is my first real intro into the local culture.

Eid is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiášr means "to break fast"; and so the holiday symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period. It is celebrated after the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan, on the first day of Shawwal.

The guy in the picture is some captain. The interpreter assisted him in dressing in traditional Afghani garb.

All in all this is the best Eid ever! It was my day off for the week and to end the perfect day I had my 2 beer limit of good ol' Steam Whistle beer!
